On October 25, 2012, in Montréal, the Héma-Québec Foundation will hold its grand urban ball, with the theme Healing, one cell at a time. The ball will raise funds to allow Héma-Québec to undertake Phase I of a major cellular and tissue therapy project that will impact the lives of hundreds of sick people as early as 2015. Cellular and tissue therapies enable the replacement or regeneration of damaged and infected cells with healthy, functional cells. They have numerous applications, and touch on many different pathologies:

  • Skin cultures for burn victims and the severely wounded
  • Cornea cultures
  • Use of stem cells for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, congestive heart failure and diabetes
  • Treatment of leukemia through cord blood transplants
